Marathasa Valley
The Marathasa Valley is located on the northern
slopes of the Troodos range. It is a fertile valley, known for its
cherry trees and picturesque villages.
Pedoulas Village is renown for its
cherries. The Church of Archangel Michael is located in the village.
This dates to 1474 and is a listed UNESCO World Heritage Site. The
Ecclesiastical Museum (tel. 22-953-636) is open daily.
The Folk Art Museum depicts traditional way of
rural life, including the customs, history and heritage of Marathasa
Village. Entrance is free, and the museum is open daily except Mondays.
Moutoullas Village includes the
Panagia tou Moutoulla church, dating to 1280. It is a listed UNESCO
World Heritage Site.
Agios Ioannis Lambadistis Church and
Byzantine Museum is located in Kalopanayiotis Village. Originally
a monastery, a complex of three churches are located under a single
roof. The earliest church dates to the 11th Century, and includes
frescoes dating from the 13th and 16th Centuries. The Tomb of Agios
Ioannis dates to the 12th Century and can be seen in church.
Kykkos Monastery and Museum is the
best-known monastery in Cyprus. Dedicated to the Virgin Mary, the
Monastery was founded in 1100 and possess one of three surviving icons
ascribed to St. Luke. Annual festivals are held at the monastery on
August 15th and September 8th. |
