Rural Destinations : Troodos : Regions
Krassochoria

The Krassochoria are located on the southern slopes of the Troodos Mountains. The region is known for its wine production, and in recent years a number of small wineries have grown alongside the “Big Four” wineries of Cyprus (KEO, SODAP, ETKO and LOEL). Cypriot wineries are investing in high quality production, and a number of them have received international recognition.

Omodos Village is a wine-producing village with narrow cobblestone streets and the Monastery of Stavros (Holy Cross). The area was once the property of Sir John de Brie, Prince of Galilee. An old wine press, the “Linos” is located near the Monastery and is open to visitors.

Koilani Village is a wine-producing village. The Church of Agia Mavri, which dates to the 12th Century, is located on the outskirts of the village. The Ecclesiastical Museum displays icons and religious objects in the Panagia Eleousa Church.

Lofou Village is located near the Athalassa dam. The entire village has been declared a protected heritage zone by the Department of Antiquities due to its well-preserved traditional architecture. Three excellent tavernas which have been licensed by CTO’s Vakhis scheme: Lofou (25-470-202), Kamares (25-470-719) and Kazani (25-470-243) are found in the village.

Vasa Village is an important wine-making village, with some of the best wineries in Cyprus. Vasa also has an Ecclesiastical Museum.

Arsos Village is one of the largest wine-producing villages in Cyprus. It has been associated with wine-making since ancient times. The Folk Art Museum of Arsos is located in a traditional house, with exhibits about the traditional way of life.
