Krassochoria
The Krassochoria are located on the southern
slopes of the Troodos Mountains. The region is known for its wine
production, and in recent years a number of small wineries have grown
alongside the “Big Four” wineries of Cyprus (KEO, SODAP, ETKO and LOEL).
Cypriot wineries are investing in high quality production, and a number
of them have received international recognition.
Omodos Village is a wine-producing village
with narrow cobblestone streets and the Monastery of Stavros
(Holy Cross). The area was once the property of Sir John de Brie, Prince
of Galilee. An old wine press, the “Linos” is located near the Monastery
and is open to visitors.
Koilani Village is a wine-producing
village. The Church of Agia Mavri, which dates to the 12th Century, is
located on the outskirts of the village. The Ecclesiastical Museum
displays icons and religious objects in the Panagia Eleousa
Church.
Lofou Village is located near the
Athalassa dam. The entire village has been declared a protected heritage
zone by the Department of Antiquities due to its well-preserved
traditional architecture. Three excellent tavernas which have been
licensed by CTO’s Vakhis scheme: Lofou (25-470-202), Kamares
(25-470-719) and Kazani (25-470-243) are found in the village.
Vasa Village is an important
wine-making village, with some of the best wineries in Cyprus. Vasa also
has an Ecclesiastical Museum.
Arsos Village is one of the largest
wine-producing villages in Cyprus. It has been associated with
wine-making since ancient times. The Folk Art Museum of Arsos is located
in a traditional house, with exhibits about the traditional way of life. |
